Portfolio Branding Case

When conceptualizing my portfolio, I felt that a minimal layout would most effectively communicate my work to interested parties (which was totally unrelated to being a complete novice at front-end development).

Firstly, the artist needs a way to be recognized -- a logo, their signature.

Here, red squares and chevrons evoke imagery of a digital camera viewfinder. Photography being my strongest suit, I felt this was fitting.

On the core PHOTO, VIDEO, and DESIGN pages, the monochromatic scheme and black outlines help reserve the user's full attention for what matters most -- the art itself.

Elsewhere, the addition of color becomes an advantage rather than a distraction.

Soft palettes accentuate the SPEEDSOLVING, CODE, and ABOUT pages, separating distinct elements together with their supporting information.

After some testing, I found that a serif headline with a sans body were best for my needs, and thus I made the following selections.

The headline typeface is Unna, self-described as neoclassical yet tender.

Accompanying Unna is the body typeface Lato. "Serious but friendly. With the feeling of the Summer," according to designer Ɓukasz Dziedzic.
